Bybit launches Indonesian platform after acquiring crypto firm NOBI

Global cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has officially launched a local trading platform in Indonesia, following its acquisition of a majority stake in PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, a digital asset company previously operating under the name NOBI.

Bybit expands into Southeast Asia

Bybit reported that the rebranded entity, now called Bybit Indonesia, will roll out its offerings gradually. The launch phase includes support for 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs, marking a significant expansion within the Indonesian digital asset market.

Executive leadership at the newly branded exchange will be headed by Lawrence Samantha as chief executive officer, with Dionisius Evan taking on the role of chief operating officer. Both executives previously held senior roles at NOBI prior to the acquisition.

“This acquisition allows us to combine Bybit’s global capabilities with an experienced local team that understands Indonesia’s market and regulatory environment,” Samantha explained in a recent statement.

Bybit is recognized as one of the world’s leading digital asset exchanges, known for offering spot and derivatives trading to millions of users internationally. This latest move underlines its ambition to strengthen its footprint in Southeast Asia.

Bybit’s entry into Indonesia arrives as the country’s cryptocurrency adoption rates continue to climb, creating strong incentives for global exchanges to compete for market share.

As of April, Indonesia had licensed 31 entities in the crypto sector, encompassing two exchanges, two clearing institutions, two custodian providers, and 25 digital asset trading platforms. PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal is among these licensed organizations.

2026 (Feb) 21.07 million

Regulatory authorities in Indonesia have taken incremental steps to integrate crypto assets into the country’s financial landscape, steadily issuing licenses and increasing oversight of digital asset activity.

Industry observers see Bybit’s local launch as part of a broader trend, as major global platforms seek to serve the growing demand for digital assets in Southeast Asia’s most populous nation.
